Turning Optimization
MPM's NextGen
Log Turning Optimizer calculates the most desired log rotation based on the cutting solution with the highest value or yield and the lowest risk. The turning optimisation supports mulitple types of turners commonly used in the industry. A unique feature of the MPM NextGen system is the utilisation of the log's profile in the rotation calculation rather than a geometric model. Studies show consistent erros of 6° to 8° when the log rotation is calculated using a geometric model in the turning calculation rather than the true shape of the log.
MPM's NextGen uses a real-time product fit in it's solutions for every 5° rotation of the log in it's search for the best orientation. The fitting process takes into consideration all machine and product information that influences the solution (skew, tilting and offsetting of the infeed, curve sawing, as well as edger and trimmer decisions). The sofware can also utilise pattern fit when required to emulate a specific breakdown philosophy.

Works with the three common type of log turners: feedroll log turners, knuckle style and ring style rotator
Completely configurable to model machinery. Models accuracy of log turner, controls exact points of where to start and end turning of the log, controls the angle to turn logs with sweep, prescribes number of tunr orientations for optimizer to consider (up to 72 or every 5°).
Optimization includes curve sawing in it's solutions (turn it "off" or "on" as required).
Rotation analysis optimizes log for best rotation and evaluates risk of each rotational position by taking into account log turner accuracy and value of neighbouring solutions to determine "best" rotation position with minimal risk and highest value.
Simulation of 3-D log images off-line allows for fine tuning of settings.
Rotation calculations are based on true shape of log and not geometric based model of log.
Rapid scan frequencies allow for conveyor speeds up to 700 feet/minute without comprimising log data collection.
Full 3-D, high resolution display of cutting solutions and corresponding rotation angle.
System architecture features Intel-based processor with Microsoft Windows NTTM operating system.
Fully international - Imperial or Metric.
